About Me

I’m Allen Hutchison, a builder and engineer with over 30 years of experience turning ideas into reality. My career has been a winding journey through startups and Google, moving between leading teams and diving deep into the code. Recently, I’ve come full circle, returning to my roots as a hands-on builder. As a Distinguished Engineer at Google DeepMind, I’m focused on creating the next generation of AI agents and developer tools.

My fascination with technology started early, rooted in a background in software engineering, testing, and product development. It’s a path that has always been guided by a commitment to continuous learning and the belief that technology can solve some of the world’s most complex problems.

Outside of work, I’m devoted to my family, an aspiring woodworker and luthier, and a guitar enthusiast. I love finding ways to blend technology with my hobbies, whether it’s building custom guitars with the help of 3D modeling tools or exploring new ways to automate my creative process. I live in San Jose, California, with my wife Jenna, our son Tommy, and our playful dog, Cloudy.

In “Letters from Silicon Valley,” I share insights from both my professional and personal experiences, exploring the convergence of technology, life, and creativity.
